Learning enhances and becomes pleasurable if integrated with functional and practical experience. Keeping this in view, the formation of literacy society as a part of the school curriculum is certainly a step taken by Roots Millennium Schools to keep pace with the changing trends in the field of education. The active functioning of the society is carried out under the guidance of teacher facilitators. The sole purpose of the RMS Literacy Society is to cater to the needs of the students and also to develop their interest in literature and language.
In Literacy Society students are given opportunities to participate in Writing Contests, Article Writing and Poetry Contests. The purpose of this society is to assist aspiring writers in channelizing their potentials in the right direction providing a path to help them better understand their capabilities. We sponsor lighthearted meetings on a weekly basis in order to promote mingling & socializing amongst members which will prove to be a fail-safe method for everyone to explore & hone the reservoirs from which their skills originate.
This society provides forums regarding important matters and observances so that every writer can benefit from getting a shot at bringing about a change with the help of the pen, a method approved by almost any religion. The ultimate goal of this society is to help its members in producing their own literary works, so that individually every one of them might spread the timeless message of how the usage of one modest & often underestimated pen is significant in today’s constantly evolving world long after this society’s dissolution.
The RMS literacy Society’s aim & objective is to develop and hone the literary skills of the students. The society encourages the students’ to develop a taste for literature & also work towards improving their spoken and written language. It is involved in a variety of activities aimed at building up the confidence & grooming the talents of students in facing various interpersonal activities & competitions. This society has initiated competition in extempore, essay writing, creative writing, poetry writing, debate, elocution, skit, quiz & reading to enhance the speech & oratorical skills of students. There won’t be any formal teaching but we’ll just try to point out crucial areas, means of improvement & so on. The focus is on encouraging students to participate & discover themselves. Literacy society teaches students valuable skills such as reading for understanding, relating reading to personal experience, how to participate in a discussion by taking turns and respecting the opinion of others. They build friendships with other book lovers and read books they might not have chosen to read on their own. Learning to read for enjoyment is the ultimate outcome one can have from this society supplemented with numerous other benefits. This society offers a venue to bring the lone act of reading, into a social circle.
