About Millennium International Lower Secondary Programme
The MILSP has been developed by the experts and subject leads from the DQCA Department of Quality Curriculum and Assessments at Millennium Schools which has been established on the same lines as the QCA department of UK and Wales. The MILSP has been bench marked against international curricula. Subject wise curriculums are developed in house and are vertically and horizontally aligned. MILSP has been created to support teaching and learning in years prior to IGCSE, O levels and Matriculation. MILSP is the Lower Secondary Programme which is based on curriculum of English, Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Social Studies, Islamiyat & Urdu that are stimulating for both students and teachers. Urdu, Islamiyat and Social Studies are taught with our national perspective using international teaching strategies. The knowledge and skills that will be developed can ensure a smooth transition from secondary to higher national/ international qualifications. The age level is 11-13 years for this qualification.

About Examination, Assessment & Progression System
A systematic and regular method of evaluation of the student’s progress in all fields of the educational activities has been adopted and a consolidated record of the student is maintained. The medium of instruction is English with due emphasis on Maths, Science, Urdu, History, Geography and Islamiyat. Monthly assessments and terminal examinations are based on two terms being taken at this level. Secondary levels offers a gateway to the Millennium Schools ‘O’ level, IGCSE level or the local matriculation examinations; with focus on strong academic foundation at such important years through developing an aptitude towards inquiry and concept based learning at each school level.
Millennium International Lower Secondary Programme enables our millennials to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Our students who follow this framework will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding.
The curriculum framework explores six content areas: number, algebra, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. The first five content areas are all underpinned by problem solving, which provides a structure for the application of mathematical skills. Mental strategies are also an important part of the number content. The curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships, so that learners apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.
This curriculum framework covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work, and recording and analysing data. The scientific enquiry objectives underpin biology, chemistry and physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.
The Millennium International Lower Secondary curriculum framework identifies a set of learning objectives for English, Mathematics and Science for each year of lower secondary education. It forms the core of the Millennium International Lower Secondary Programme and:
- Provides natural progression from primary education through the two years of lower secondary education
- Provides a structure that focuses on what learners should be able to do at the end of each stage
- Provides excellent preparation for candidates progressing to the Cambridge IGCSE courses.
Benefits of Subject Based Approach
Exposure and engagement in a variety of subjects at 11-16 gives a student an indispensable intellectual toolkit. Subject-based syllabuses allow for much more than the transmission of knowledge necessary for further study or work. They promote meaningful engagement in real problems, and help develop high-level skills that students can apply in unfamiliar situations. Using the ‘discipline’ and approach of an individual subject, thinking about the world can be rigorous and demanding. The world looks very different to a biologist than it does to a historian. The same world looks even more exciting if you can look at it from a range of perspectives. They encourage creativity, provoke reflection and promote joined-up thinking.
